Middle Years Programme

At AaIS we aim to develop inquiring students in a safe, supportive and challenging environment. In Middle School this means smaller classes, differentiated learning and a school programme that works towards students independently knowing how to transfer concepts, knowledge and skills in settings both in and outside of school. Students are encouraged to question and evaluate information, and to learn to combine relevant knowledge, experience and logical thinking to solve problems. Most importantly, at AaIS we are proud to say we have a diverse group of students, in an inclusive social environment.

In addition to following the MYP curriculum, AaIS also ensures that students meet the requirements of the Norwegian government. After completing their final year at our school, they will be able to successfully apply to Norwegian secondary schools (videregående skole). We want every teenager to learn the curriculum, and therefore ensure that those who need extra help receive it, whether that is a student with a higher starting ability or a child with an Individualized Educational Plan (IOP).

In addition, students in Year 10 have career guidance sessions. This is the process to assist students in making and implementing informed and mature educational and occupational choices.

Our assessment criteria identifies the local Norwegian standards for assessment along with the required MYP criteria and objectives. This is in order to provide students with opportunities to achieve at the highest level as they continue to the high school IB Diploma Programme (DP) or a Norwegian educational context.

As a culmination of their learning in the MYP programme at AaIS, all year 10 students will complete a Personal Project. The Personal Project grade will be reported to Inntakskontoret along with the other final grades in Grade 10 and will count into the average for application to Upper Secondary Schools.
